Customer Reviews: Over a year and still running great.March 10, 2010 A. Hoxie I have had this Drinkwell fountain for over a year and it's still running great! I like it because it doesn't take a lot of maintenance like I thought it might. I clean the bowl out maybe once a week or whenever I notice hair or food in it. I give it a good scrub once every other month and usually it doesn't even need it!The motor does benefit from the hair being removed or it will get sluggish! Some people commented that it needs to be cleaned very frequently but I haven't found that. I have 2 male cats and they drink out of it constantly and I've had no problems. My cats took to drinking out of the fountain very quickly and seem to really enjoy it!
Don't buy the recommended cleaning tools, you won't need them! I purchased them and they are still in their package.
Great for multiple petsMarch 8, 2010 Alanna Almgren(Issaquah, WA United States) I purchased this fountain for my kitten. It is very large and difficult to clean all the parts. The pump was continually slimy and after two days of being cleaned, I had to clean the fountain again. Since I use bottled water, this can get expensive. My kitty didn't really care for this fountain and tried to avoid the running water that would splash his head, he loves playing in water, but not having the flow go into his head. The fountain is quite loud and should be put somewhere where you can't hear it. Cleaning the fountain was an hour long process. If you have multiple pets in the home, it makes sense to have a larger fountain, but for just one kitty, it is too big and doesn't justify the cleaning or water waste from having to clean it every two days.
Hits the Spot SaberMarch 3, 2010 Scott A. Shaub(Lititz, Pa) The water system is very well designed; our cat loves to drink from it. I have been changing the water and cleaning the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain every week. We have a Bengal cat that loves to play in the water and used to come running every time he heard the sink faucet running. Now he has his very own little area to get fresh water and paw at the water stream, he's cute to watch. Hits the Spot Saber!
Plastic not Metal! A little Noisier than Expected!March 3, 2010 Dominick A. Orlando(Florida) First off, judging by the Name "Platinum" & by the Picture, I thought it was some sort of metal. It's Grey Plastic! It works fine, but the motor is a bit noisier than me or my Cat would like. I have a timid Cat & she would not go near it for 2 weeks probably because of the Motor hum. I also wish you could set the Water flow rate even lower than the Lowest Setting available. I thought it was a little pricey, even at this discount rate, for what you get. But it does what it's intended for, so I gave it 3 Stars.
Great idea!February 28, 2010 DesertRider(Ogden, Utah) This is a great idea. My cat has a very strong preference and fascination for running water. She used to pester me at the bathroom sink because she always wanted me to turn the faucet on. This Drinkwell fountain has largely satisfied her craving for running water. Now she sits on the floor and watches it for long periods. I docked the rating one star because a small vibration that comes and goes. That doesn't surprise me because I always had a similar vibration problem with aquarium motors.
